Re-Engage & Thrive with Retargeting

In the vibrant world of digital marketing, making a lasting impression on your audience is key. That’s where retargeting comes into play, a powerful strategy that Ad360 has mastered to help brands like yours reconnect with potential customers. Let’s dive into how retargeting can transform your digital campaigns.

The Magic of Retargeting

Imagine this scenario: A user visits your website, browses a few pages, but leaves without making a purchase or signing up. This is where most traditional advertising strategies might hit a dead end. But not with retargeting. Retargeting allows us to find these potential customers wherever they continue their online journey, keeping your brand front and center.

How Does Retargeting Work?

When users visit your site, they are tagged with a small piece of code (a cookie). This cookie then allows Ad360 to ‘follow’ them across the web. When they visit other websites that display ads, your ad can appear, serving as a gentle reminder of your brand and offerings.

The Benefits of Retargeting for Brands

  1. Increased Brand Recall: By repeatedly showing your ads to potential customers, you enhance brand recognition, making it more likely that they will return to your site when ready to make a decision.
  2. Higher Conversion Rates: Retargeting is known for its effectiveness in converting window-shoppers into buyers. By targeting users who have already shown interest in your brand, you’re reaching a more qualified audience.
  3. Cost-Effective: Retargeting can be more cost-effective than other forms of advertising, as you’re focusing on users who are already familiar with your brand, thus reducing the need to cast a wider net.
  4. Personalized Advertising: Retargeting allows for personalized ads based on the user’s previous interactions with your site, making the ads more relevant and engaging.

The benefits of Retargeting have been proven in many studies, such as the one conducted by Stanford Graduate School of Business marketing professors Navdeep Sahni and Sridhar Narayanan examined the effectiveness of various retargeting campaigns on over 230,000 visitors to BuildDirect.com, a Canada-based home-improvement retailer. The study revealed that retargeted advertising is effective, particularly when initiated soon after a user’s website visit. Among users who left the BuildDirect website after viewing a product page, retargeted ads increased their likelihood of returning to the site by nearly 15%. For more detailed insights from the study, you can access the full report here.

Maximize Google Ads with 360° Retargeting

Retargeting Squared: Increase Sales on Shopify with Layered Ad Retargeting

If you have kept up with our previous posts on retargeting (click here, here, and here for a refresher course), you know that retargeting is arguably the most effective digital marketing strategy on the web.

That means for online business owners, learning the fundamentals of retargeting are essential if you want to succeed and increase your sales on Shopify!

However, did you know that there are ways to deploy “layers” of ad retargeting?  The value of this tactic is simple: you reach your audience across all search engines and platforms – rather than being restricted to a single network.  In other words, layered ad retargeting empowers e-commerce business owners to target users not only on sites like Facebook and Google, but it allows them to continue showing ads to users as they browse the millions of Independent sites across the web.

Check out this post for a 2-step guide on how to layer ad retargeting to maximize conversions and increase your sales on Shopify 😊

Step 1: Ensure you Have Ad Remarketing Enabled on the Baseline Platform

To start, remember that platforms like Google offer their own remarketing programs that can be toggled on.  This is a no-brainer.  If you are not already using this baseline ad retargeting technique, you are allowing ~98% of all of your web traffic to “fall through the cracks.”  With no way of knowing how has visited your site, your digital marketing strategy will continue to feel like “finding a needle in a haystack.”

source

Step 2: Layer Ad Retargeting that Works Across the Entire Web

Now that you have established ad retargeting on the specific platform in question (e.g. – Google), it is time to layer up!  Using a simple app, e-commerce owners can reach outside of Google’s network when showing ads to retargeted users.

What this means is that is the user clicks on an independent site not under the Google Display Network, your ads can still be shown to the user! This layered retargeting tactic broadens appeal, and the numbers make a clear case for its effectiveness.

There are currently ~2 million websites linked to the Google Display Network… but there are over 200 million active websites across the web!  So, by layering on external ad retargeting on top of Google’s remarketing option, you reach roughly 198 million more sites with your digital marketing.  After considering these figures, there is a strong case to be made that layered ad retargeting could drastically increase your sales on Shopify.

Conclusion: Menadex by Ad360 Can Unlock Your Online Store’s Potential

For a quick solution to “layered ad retargeting,” Ad360’s Menadex media offering connects your e-commerce promotions to every active website on the internet.  That way, your store can show ads to retargeted customers on websites that your competitors cannot reach, giving you the advantage in brand exposure and customer awareness.

If you want to see the impact that layered retargeting can have on your business, reach out to try a free demo from Ad360!  We’ll automatically begin layering in our platform’s “universal ad retargeting” services on top of the ones offered by platforms like Google.  Create your next ad campaign with one click, and increase your sales on Shopify today 😊 Happy selling!

Ad360’s mission is to make millions of merchants happy and successful. We take care of all your promotional activities, allowing you to focus on your passion & core business.

Many business owners have serious marketing issues

According to merchants, the number one difficulty they face is the complexity of online advertising and the heavy investments required to get results. Newly launched business owners frequently cite lack of time, resources, and marketing knowledge as the primary causes for the lack of website visitors and buyers.

That’s a severe problem, evidenced by a shockingly high failure rate:
more than 90% of e-commerce startups have to shut down in their first six months of existence, according to a 2019 MarketingSignals study. The two most frequent reasons are “Poor online marketing” and “Lack of online visibility.”

Unfortunately, advertising methods which are both affordable and very effective, such as retargeting, are often unknown or deemed too complex to implement by small businesses. Retargeting allows showing ads to specific users interested in a merchant’s website and products. This advertising technique, well known by major brands and professional marketers, is not employed by most small businesses. That’s a significant missed opportunity, as it can reduce advertising costs while increasing sales by more than 50%.

Ad360 aims to change this fact and make it easier than ever for any business, regardless of its size, to get started with Retargeting and grow their business.

Find the Buyer in the Haystack 100 times faster

If you are a hardworking store owner just a tad frustrated with your digital promotion, keep reading!! Because while most Shopify business owners know how to release ads on tech platforms like Google or Facebook, many ads end up not reaching their intended target.

To help explain the difficulty of running successful online ads, think of the old analogy:

“It’s as hard as finding a needle in a haystack.”

That’s what generating truly great customers feels like – where do you start as a local business owner? The needle is your ideal customer base or promising lead… the hay is all the people you have to sift through before finding your golden geese.

I mean hell, there are billions of people surfing Google and Facebook…. How do you narrow that field down to those people most interested in your Shopify store?

The answer is Ad Retargeting!

Automated ad retargeting software saves willingly given customer info of any customer who even glances at your Shopify store. If they visited once, the odds are MUCH higher they will consider visiting again! After that, business owners can send out ads – not only across all major social media platforms but also all over the web and in mobile apps – advertising specifically to individuals who have already visited and expressed interest in your store! It’s like having software that helps you find all the needles in a haystack for lead generation… in like 5 minutes. Set up correctly, this is the remarkable efficiency ad retargeting offers business owners.

To extend our analogy, ad retargeting does not only extract out all the needles with ease – the targeted nature of it means you don’t even have to buy the bale of hay! You can just walk up and extract all the best potential customers who visited your Shopify store. And you save all the money, resources, and energy you would have put toward users online who, in reality, simply aren’t a part of your ideal customer base.

In other words, without ad retargeting, Shopify store owners end up paying for ads displayed on pages where 99% of the viewers are uninterested in your store – “cold calling.”  Ad retargeting allows you to channel all those resources to that 1% who are very likely to become regular customers/love your store offerings! By concentrating on winning over that 1% already interested, ad retargeting can improve customer lead generation efficiency by 1,046%.

Want to learn more about ad retargeting or give it a trial to jumpstart your business? Click on the link to get a demo of how the Ad360 App for Shopify will enable retargeting for your business!

How to turn abandoned carts into sales

Here is a story that is all too frequent for shop owners:

Christine visited a section of your website two days ago to purchase a dress from your online store. She likes the dress very much, and she already imagines herself smiling when she unpacks the dress and wears it for the first time.

But while she was about to hit the “order” button, a notification from work came into her phone.

Christine leaves your website and takes the call, which requires her to open a new tab on her phone for quick work research. The rest of the day gets busy for Christine, and she forgets to complete her transaction on your online store.

Has this ever happened to you? That wouldn’t be surprising since about 96% of people leave a website without purchasing for different reasons.

What if you could remind Christine about the dress so that she comes back to the website and completes the transaction?

This is precisely what retargeting allows you to do!

Retargeting, also known as remarketing, is a form of high-performance marketing that drives sales in a unique and specific method. It allows you to show personalized ads to people who have visited a particular page or section on your website. While they go through other websites online, they see ads from your site to remind them of their unfinished transaction. Retargeting efficiently converts abandoned carts into sales because the ad goes directly to the persons who have already demonstrated an interest in your store and products.

Are you interested in learning more? This article explains everything you need to know about retargeting and why it’s indispensable for a successful e-commerce business.

At Ad360, our mission is to help business owners of all sizes grow and be happier. You can quickly get started with retargeting, thanks to Ad360 App for Shopify.

Why is Retargeting indispensable for success?

What Is Retargeting, and Why It’s Indispensable When Running a Successful eCommerce Business?

Retargeting is a type of online advertising that uses website cookies to track your website users. Even after prospective customers leave their site, you can target them with ads for your brand or product.

This process is the best-performing and most efficient type of advertising because it only shows ads to consumers who have expressed their interest in your product or service. By targeting warm leads, conversion rates go up, meaning ad spend is justified.

The Problem

Less than 2% of consumers purchase something on their first visit to an eCommerce website. On top of that, some reports suggest that more than 90% of consumers who first visit a website have no intention of making a purchase. The majority of web traffic is there to compare prices or review your items.

In fact, it takes several interactions with a brand before a consumer makes a purchase. Salesforce suggests the number is between six and eight. Other estimates say it takes as much as ten.

Whichever way you look at it, getting visitors to your eCommerce website is just part of the battle. Making further impressions via marketing, advertising, reviews, word of mouth, etc., is what is needed to ensure sales.

These numbers demonstrate just how difficult it is for eCommerce brands today. Additionally, they highlight how difficult it is for merchants to compete in a crowded marketplace.

The Solution

Retargeting offers eCommerce websites an excellent solution to these issues. By targeting consumers who have expressed an interest in your products or services (by visiting your site) and targeting them with ads, you can increase the interactions that lead to sales.

Retargeting — also known as remarketing — has been used by digital marketing specialists and big brands for a long time. It’s a popular form of advertising because it gets excellent results.

As we mentioned earlier, it’s the most effective type of marketing you can do because it deliberately targets warm leads. Instead of paying for advertisements that hopefully target a demographic, retargeting serves ads to people who are already interested in your products.

However, despite retargeting’s proven track record, many small eCommerce businesses don’t implement this form of advertising. There are a couple of reasons for this:

A) They don’t know about retargeting

B) They believe that retargeting is too challenging to do.

Not knowing about something is understandable. Running an eCommerce store has a big learning curve. It’s a lot of work, with many things to set up and suppliers and customers to deal with.

As for believing it’s too challenging, that can be true too. Sometimes it is hard for people to implement retargeting, especially for eCommerce store owners who aren’t digital natives.

However, eCommerce merchants need to overcome these challenges. The world of digital retail has shifted over the last few years. Failure to keep up with the times and use every tool at your disposal could lead to a closing business.

How eCommerce Has Changed in Recent Years

eCommerce has been a significant growth sector over the last decade or so. In 2014, the industry was worth around $1.3bn. That number will be about $5.4bn in 2022.

The pandemic exacerbated the existing trend toward an online economy. During the lockdown, many brick-and-mortar businesses went digital. Additionally, a glut of new merchants moved into the space, hoping to be part of this thriving sector.

eCommerce sales account for almost 1 in 5 of all retail sales worldwide. However, despite these positive numbers, 90% of eCommerce businesses fail in the first three months.

There are several reasons why eCommerce businesses don’t work. The top three are:

a) Poor online marketing

b) A lack of search engine visibility

c) A lack of demand for their products or services

This scenario is heartbreaking. Starting a business is such an exciting time for many entrepreneurs. It’s a significant investment of time and money, not to mention hopes and dreams.

However, many eCommerce business owners quickly realize that getting a slice of the online retail pie is difficult. While the market is growing, so too is the competition.

One solution for eCommerce business owners is to run ads on social media (like Facebook or Instagram) or search engines like Google. But the increase in competition means that these marketing avenues have become more expensive and less effective.

In short, it’s hard for businesses to stand out and run ads that result in a return on investment. Most companies don’t have a bottomless pit to pay for advertising while their store takes off.

Retargeting is the solution to this issue because it helps businesses increase sales while keeping costs in check.

How Retargeting Works

While it may seem daunting to set up, retargeting is a simple process.

When a visitor comes to your website, it drops a cookie (sometimes called a pixel) on their web browser. These cookies can identify each user as they navigate the web.

For example:

Martha needs a good winter coat. She visits an eCommerce store and sees a brand that she likes. The website records Martha’s visit and attaches a cookie to her browser that indicates her interest in the product or the website.

Later, Martha browses her favorite websites: Facebook and the New York Times. She is greeted with some ads that are based on the cookies the eCommerce store saved. Martha is reminded of the brand and the winter coat she was interested in.

This process serves as one of the “touchpoints” or interactions required for a sale. Martha decides that it’s time to buy the coat and clicks through on the ad or goes directly to the merchant’s website.

This story is a simple illustration of the power of retargeting. It helps serve personalized ads to people who have already expressed an interest in a product. This process can help remind them or convince them to make a purchase.

Benefits of Retargeting

Almost 70% of consumers say they are happy with personalization on one condition; that the information used to target them comes from first-party data.

Put plainly, consumers are OK with an eCommerce store collecting their information and using that to send them personalized ads. However, they are less keen about an eCommerce store buying data from a third party, like Facebook, and using that information to target them with ads.

Retargeting satisfies these criteria because it uses a customer’s visit to the site as the prompt to send them a personalized ad.

For eCommerce businesses, retargeting has many benefits.

Retargeting:

1) Increases brand awareness by keeping a business fresh in the user’s mind

2) Makes advertising more efficient by targeting interested consumers

3) Reduces the cost of marketing and advertising campaigns

Another great benefit of retargeting is how it combats what is known as “ad blindness.” Ad blindness is the term for a phenomenon that we are all familiar with.

When we browse the web, we are met with many advertisements. After a while, we tend to tune them out, whether consciously or subconsciously. According to some studies, ad blindness affects around 86% of consumers.

When you think about it, that is an incredible number. Almost 9 in 10 people don’t see or notice ads. You’re paying good money for ad space, but for many of your potential audience, your ads might as well not be there.

The good news is that retargeting doesn’t suffer from this problem. In fact, statistics suggest that 75% of consumers notice retargeting ads. The likely reason for this is because they already have an interest and awareness of your brand.

That is the power of personalization.

The Remarketing Sales Funnel

If you are running an eCommerce business, you’ve probably heard terms like sales or marketing funnel being tossed around. Typically, these funnels are used to describe the various stages of a customer journey, from first finding out about a brand all the way to making a purchase.

It’s helpful to break this process up into stages. It makes it easier to identify where you are going wrong and what areas you can improve, for starters.

Remarketing also has a sales funnel; however, it’s a bit different from the traditional models that you’ve probably encountered.

The remarketing funnel can be broken down into four simple stages:

  • Cold Leads
  • Warm Leads
  • Hot Leads
  • Resale and Upsale Leads

Each of these stages describes where your prospective customers are in relation to your products or services.

Let’s explore each stage and see how retargeting can help.

#1. Cold Leads

OK, so you are probably a bit confused. Isn’t the whole point of retargeting to focus on people who have already expressed an interest in your product? Shouldn’t we just be starting with warm leads?

Well, not exactly.

You see, cold leads can be part of a solid remarketing strategy because you can install a cookie or tracking pixel on the browser of someone who has visited any part of your site, including a blog.

You can combine retargeting with a content marketing campaign to drive more customers into your funnel. For example, if your eCommerce store sells golf equipment, you can write articles about golf. These could be product reviews, interviews, or tips and tricks on improving your game. Likewise, you can produce YouTube videos and retarget viewers.

Essentially, this stage is about increasing brand awareness. You are casting a wide net and getting attention from interested parties in the hope of turning them from cold leads who don’t know anything about your brand into warm leads that could become customers in the future.

#2. Warm Leads

Warm leads are customers actively looking for a solution to their problems. They are researching and evaluating different products and finding the right one.

eCommerce stores have a few different options here:

A) They can retarget based on a particular product they’ve expressed interest in

B) They can retarget based on all the products they are interested in.

If you have an eCommerce store focused on one particular item, then promoting that is sensible. However, if your store sells shoes, it might be worth paying for a carousel ad that shows several products.

#3. Hot Leads

Hot leads describe the prospects who are ready to buy. They’ve done their research and price comparisons, and all that’s left is to make a decision.

This stage is where remarketing excels at keeping your product fresh in the mind of potential customers. They’ve weighed up various solutions, and they’re thinking about which one is best. As they browse social media or news websites, your ads will serve as a gentle reminder.

Again, there are a few options that eCommerce stores can explore here.

A) Use ads to remind the consumer about your product

B) Anticipate the final objections that consumers might have about your product. It could be about price, quality, your returns policy, shipping costs, payment methods, and so on.

Retargeting offers a few different ways that you can alleviate these concerns. You could write an ad copy that addresses issues and promotes your product.

C) One time-honored sales tactic to employ is creating a sense of urgency. For example, you could offer a discount for a limited time or some other perk like free shipping.

#4. Re-sale and Upsale Leads

Many eCommerce business owners don’t realize that one of their most significant potential sources of revenue is their existing customers.

Upselling to customers is 68% cheaper than acquiring new customers. On average, it increases revenue by around 10-30%.

Of course, there is a delicate balance to be struck. We’ve all had the experience of buying a gift for someone online and then being bombarded with emails and ads by that same retailer for months afterward. It’s not a nice feeling, and it can actually lower our company’s opinion.

That said, retargeting your existing customers with relevant products they are likely to need is a powerful tactic.

Summary

Retargeting is the process of using web cookies to serve ads to people who have visited your website or product pages. It’s the most effective way to advertise because you target warm leads who have already expressed an interest in your product.

Competition in the eCommerce sector has increased considerably over the last few years. The cost of acquiring customers via ads is also on the rise.

For an eCommerce business to survive, they need to get smart and find a way to stand without running ads that bankrupt their company. Retargeting offers the best solution to this problem by effectively and efficiently serving ads to warm users.

Stop ignoring 97% of your potential buyers!

Gone are the days of traditional marketing; the world has, and is still evolving digitally with no signs of stopping in sight. This is why you – as a business owner – need to re-evaluate your business and marketing strategies on a regular basis. If you want to drive customers to your website/business, you need to advertise, and you need to do it over and over again.

Why?

Because according to Business Insider, over 97% of the people who visit your website for the first time are likely to leave without buying anything. This is where it becomes crucial to bring them back, otherwise, they will be lost forever.

The solution for this is “Retargeting”.

No worries if you don’t know what this is or how it works. Ad360 is here to help businesses of all sizes get more results out of their online activites! You’re about to learn everything you need to know to make a massive difference in your business and get more sales!

So let’s turn back to retargeting and discover how it can help your business grow.

What is Retargeting?

Retargeting is the process, rather, a strategy that keeps reminding visitors who have visited your website once that you still exist. This is done via ads and is one of the most powerful ways to re-engage with customers. It allows you to reconnect with potential customers online (on websites and even on apps) and convert them into paying customers.

Basically, you are targeting people who have visited or interacted with your website previously at least once. This includes people who abandoned shopping carts.

Unfortunately, this is an option too frequently averted by new and small businesses; this is a big mistake!

Why is Overlooking Retargeting a Mistake?

Because retargeting focuses on people who are already familiar with your brand. If your brand reappears to them over a course of time, it is proven that they will return and shop from your site. Over 92% of people who visit your site for the first time are not yet ready to make a purchase; retargeting them over and over helps to ease them in and convert them into paying customers.

Retargeting will keep you on the top of their mind the next time they are out to look for a product you are hosting/selling on your website. Websites that employ retargeting experience higher Return On Investment (ROI). The goal of a retargeting campaign is to make potential customers take action that they didn’t on their initial visit.

How does Retargeting Work?

Most of the people have already experienced retargeting and have converted into paying customers without even knowing.

  • When a customer visits your website, their visit data is store in a privacy-compliant way.
  • Instead of showing ads to random people on the internet, retargeting will use all the information about the activities of the customers (the product they viewed, etc.) to show only relevant ads to persons that have shown an interest in your products.
  • When the customer visits some other website that displays ads, they will be served ads based on those or similar products that are available on your website.

By constantly reminding them of those products and having your website just a click away for them, the ad campaign will prompt the customer to click on the ad and redirect them to your website where they will take the desired action: make a purchase.

Note the importance of repetition!

There is a marketing rule of thumb where if you really want to make up a visitor’s mind to make a purchase from your website, you must ensure they see your ad at least 7 more times. This means in order to convert a visitor into a customer, you must use retargeting to show them your ad repeated so they finally make up their mind about purchasing from your website. Not to mention it greatly increases your brand visibility to people who already have displayed an interest in your products.

Benefits of Retargeting

According to InternetSearchInc., over 56% of businesses employ retargeting to win more customers. And if more businesses knew about retargeting, this figure would be much higher. According to Google, by combining retargeting with other marketing and advertisement strategies, you can increase sales by 50%.

Retargeting allows new businesses to regain loyal customers over a period and serves as a long-term strategy. You can use it to:

  • Showcase your best selling products along with promoting other items that are popular among your targeted audience, increasing your ROI gradually
  • It helps you promote new products to an already existing audience and let them know how you are expanding your inventory to include a new variety of different types of products; this makes them revisit your website and view those products
  • You can show ads about sales and special promotions to your audience without having to put in any extra efforts
  • It keeps your brand on top of their mind and the next time they need to make a purchase; they will visit your site instead of looking for a new place to shop from

Conclusion

Retargeting is a low-budget yet highly efficient technique that has helped new and small businesses develop an online presence as well as a loyal customer base.

Ad360 App for Shopify make it easy for individuals who are not tech-savvy to develop their brand further with its advanced easy-to-use features. Grow your online sales and business by generating more visibility, traffic, and sales.
